Throughout the year we like to edify some of our amazing staff at Surf Side Hotel. We believe they are the heart of our hotel. And why we achieve incredible accolades, high Tripadvisor ratings, and awards.
We interviewed Sheldon Pruiett, General Manager, at Surf Side Hotel recently to continue our series. Read on!
Q: When did you start working at Surf Side Hotel?
Sheldon Pruiett: I came aboard on June 9th 2024 and was excited about not only the location, but the full potential of the hotel.
In Hospitality
Q: Where and when did your career in hospitality start?Â
SP: I have been in Hospitality since I was 18 years old in Branson, MO and I have been a General Manager since 2007.
Q: What is the toughest part of your job right now? Â
SP: Learning the new market and how to best promote the hotel.
Q: What has been your greatest success thus far in your career?
SP: Winning Independent Hotel of the Year award (ILC)* in 2023 for the Ozarker Lodge, a 102-room boutique property.
Q: What was your fondest memory of a guest?
SP: Since I’ve been in the industry for over 15 years, many memories come to mind, but what sticks out most is when a guest returns and we’re able to build upon the relationship we’ve been cultivating over their multiple visits. Guests become more like friends, not just customers.
Personally Speaking
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
SP: I love to play golf, take walks on the beach to unwind, and have fun with my family.
Q: What is one thing very few people know about you?
SP: I played basketball for the U.S. amateur team when I was 18. We traveled a lot and even went to Australia.
Q: Who do you admire, or look up to, and why?
SP: I admire my Dad because of his work ethic and family values. I learned a lot growing up watching him and I’m glad he’s an example for my kids too.
