Overall, this was a wonderful room and we enjoyed our stay very much.  Maybe a 4.8 out of 5!

☺The view of the ocean from the balcony was superb, really wonderful. It made our week.
The staff was also very friendly and helpful.
No problem with parking. 
The evening cookies were nice.
Closet and bureau had plenty of room. 
TVs were large and fine (though I wish direct access to Amazon Prime, not just Netflix, was available).
Good to have table and chairs as well as coffee table in the living room, and a chair in the bedroom.

☹The breakfast was reasonably good (though I wouldn't call it excellent -- a bit repetitive [alternating eggs [from powder, I think] and bacon, then eggs and sausage, and then frittatas, which were good]).  Fruit good, coffee good. Nice assortment of muffins and juices.  Oatmeal. We didn't try the gravy and biscuits or the waffles.  So, overall, good, but not the best. (This should be in a category of, not what you liked or didn't like, but what was good, but not excellent.)
The bed was comfortable, but, like a lot of hotels, they have gone for a very high bed, which is sometimes less easy for old people to get in and out of.
The bathroom was quite small, to the point that using the toilet was a bit challenging.  Nice to have bathtub and shower, though.
We had a little problem with moisture on the floor (perhaps a combo of the balcony door and the AC?)

☺Such a hidden gem! The amenities and social hours give it more of a B&B feel with the convenience of a hotel. The breakfast was fantastic, and the staff were all so welcoming!

Another fun stay at Surf Side
For the fourth straight year we stayed at Surf Side for 4 days in mid September, 2026. This hotel is located 75-100 yards from the ocean, offers access to at least 5 good restaurants, close proximity to Manteo and Roanoke Island, and a straight shot to Oregon Inlet. We always stay in a room facing the ocean. The rooms have at least one balcony that offers an ocean view, sound, and smell if you do not want to deal with the sand. The rooms are pleasantly appointed and comfortable in size. The bathroom is adequate but small. The amenities include a fine breakfast with many selections, a wine and cheese hour, fresh baked cookies, and a large ice machine that provides ice for your cooler free of charge. The staff is responsive to your requests and pleasant to deal with; although there is always some sort of minor issue with room cleaning. We really enjoy our stay at Surf Side and highly recommend this hotel as an OBX destination.

My family and I enjoyed our stay; we would come back if we visit the OBX again.

☺Complimentary breakfast was great with a few varieties each day. The housekeeping was spot on with having our room serviced and cleaned in a timely manner. The provided beach chairs were a nice touch, and it helped us travel with more space in our vehicle. The cheese and wine social, board games and checkers/chess, popcorn, and fresh chocolate chip cookies were also great to have in the lobby area. Also, we love that there is an outdoor and indoor swimming pool as other options to enjoy ourselves than the beach. Outside the hotel there were nearby spots that are walkable to dine and have dessert.

☹There wasn’t much we didn’t like. However, we have found a few areas that were missed while keeping the hotel clean and tidy, but it wasn’t bad.

☹While the property states “ocean front” we were under the impression that ALL rooms were “ocean view” and, as we’ve stayed here several times in the past, we were also under the impression that all rooms had balconies,  our’s did not.  We were also in the building that allowed pets and had no elevator.  While I wish these points were clearly stated when booking the room for the week, we still enjoyed our stay and as it was the last available room at a great price would have booked it regardless!

Better than renting a house.
The best vacation ever! Hotel is nice, great breakfast, popcorn in the afternoons, cheese and wine at 5:00 cookies at 8. Pools are nice. All the staff are friendly. We will definitely come here again.

We stayed at the Surf Side Hotel for five nights in mid-September

The Surf Side Hotel was Great.  Booking.com was NOT.  I will NOT use BOOKING, AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

☺Everything about our experience was tremendous except using BOOKING.COM.  I will not Ever use them again.

☹I selected a nice hotel and wanted a room with two queens to experience the Outer Banks for the first time.
BOOKING.COM reserved me a room Not at the main hotel building but at an Outbuilding on their property with a back room with a view facing a dune.  If I wanted any amenities like breakfast or later wine and cheese etc, my wife and I would have to walk across a parking lot to get it in the main building.  I contacted Booking and got calls from Hong Kong, the Netherlands and maybe Atlanta and was told they couldn't do anything to change it.  I almost didn't want to come.

☺Schönes Hotel direkt am Strand. Große Zimmer und bequeme Betten. Sehr freundliches Personal. Der Pool war sehr erfrischend, wir haben ihn genossen. In der Lobby steht eine Popcorn Maschine, tolle Idee. Wären gerne noch ein paar Tage länger geblieben.

Great hotel on the beach. Clean, bright with large rooms. There are 2 pools, one outside and one indoor as well as a jacuzzi. Friendly staff with a wine social in lobby each night. The breakfast is very good with hot entrees like eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy. Easy beach access.

What an amazing place! Location is 10/10. Great service, clean rooms, we couldn’t have asked for much more. We ended up extending our stay and they accommodated getting us a new room right away, was able to check in early and everything. Family satisfied with first experience in OBX.
Great location to see both sunrise and sunset. The room that we got was perfect, it had a great view at a reasonable price per night, and it was very well maintained and cleaned by room service every day. The noise level was acceptable even if we were located on the first floor overlooking the swimming pool. The amenities are great with their wine and cheese social, fresh cookies in the check-in/check-out room, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and beach chairs to use at the beach. They also have a popcorn maker which is a great touch while playing chess, checkers, and several board games stored in their shelves. Lastly, cannot go wrong with their breakfast and the great staff. We only stayed over night.  But the place is really nice. The staff is amazing.  Looking forward to going back next year for a few more days.  I have serious breathing issues and we asked them about cleaning with scent free cleaners when we come back. They said they are more than will to do that. First time staying here. Absolutely loved it. 100% will be back in the future. I dealt with 3 different front desk employees and every single one was so nice.  Special shout out to the front desk associate Jason who was super cool and friendly, I had great conversations with, and he even recommended a phenomenal place to eat close to Manteo. Thank you Jason!!The lady working the breakfast buffett each morning was incredibly nice, the housekeeping employees was super friendly. I honestly couldn't have asked for a better first experience. Great family get away

A clean, family friendly hotel! My husband and I stayed for a romantic getaway and it did not disappoint.  The room was spacious with a balcony view of the ocean.  The pool area was clean and well kept. Beach access is very convenient. The hotels location is close to local restaurants and a grocery store. My favorite OBX hotel
I have been staying here since 2018, the hotel is lovely and the amenities and location is amazing. Being right on the beach is great. There are plenty of restaurants and places for souvenirs and ice cream that are walkable or within a couple minutes drive. The hotel is very clean and the free breakfast is great.
